Now it’s truly flooding at Kota Bharu Town. Water level have passed the danger level at Tambatan DiRaja; one of the main centres where flood water level is measured. Kelantan River water has spread over landwards, causing the main drains to backflow into and over the Town’s drainage system and into residential areas.
Here’s one of Kota Bharu’s premiere hotel, by the Kelantan River.
It used to be a place called Taman Sekebun Bunga, where we can have the river view while having something to eat. Now it is solely for the Hotel purpose. Similiar case happened in Kuala Terengganu where the taxi station by the Terengganu River became The Hotel Seri Malaysia. The river view has since been blocked from public view and reserved for the hotel. Something must be done to safeguard public areas from being monopolised by commercial institutions.
Kota Bharu Town .... oops.. City Centre under flood. The pillars with the Qur’an symbol on a `Rehal’ that symbolised the Islamic City seems majestic, looming over the flooded town centre. However, in and around Kota Bharu Town, flood does not signify fear and worry for calamity; rather it is an opportunity to bring one’s family along and together wading across the flooded town centre. In fact is becomes a source of rezeki for some; hawkers selling hot fast food like fried / steamed corn, fried bananas, burgers and the likes.
Some are just too much assholes to care for other people and keep on their pungent behaviors; the more people around the more excited they are to exhibit their assholeness. However this time their acts fall flat on their faces; felling in the flood water trying to do the single tyre bravado; not one but both of them... to the cheers and boos of the piss-off spectators... who shouted...`buat lagi, yang itu tak aci’.
In the rising water however, something stands out;
However, I doubt if anybody would be conscientious enough to visit this one sign of civilisation for the fact that it would back-float (backfire seemed a totally inappropriate word!!!).
Disember 2007. The long predicted flood have shown its face. Last year it was predicted that the East Coast would be hit by a very bad flood but what happened that the flood was `deflected' to Johore; so said a meterological Department's source. I couldnt help laughing at the report; rather than admitting to inaccuracy of prediction, he sort of said the flood have run away from its true course.... so much for human pride.
The photo by the river was taken of The Sultan Yahya Petra Bridge; the main bridge connecting the East and West bank of Sungai Kelantan. The other two was approaching my house 5 days latter when water level rose again after some subsidence, and it's still rising. In the 2004 flood we were stranded inside. It was quite an experience, the first after moving into this new house. The report from Gerakan Banjir was that water level at Kuala Krai; the main measuring station for Kota Bharu had subsided and at Tambatan DiRaja Kota Bharu water had stabilise. However this morning water level at my house had risen by some 6'. Im still waiting for the development for my next action; shift my car from the present place to higher ground..
