OLD LIFT

Found this interesting note inside an old lift at Ipoh Railway Station. It's still working though. Solid double door. As the inner door closes the lift immediately jerked intself up or down as per direction required. Dont look from the outside though, else your confidence might shatter.. and the next recourse in to take 4 flight of stairs just to get to the next level..

ROAD TO CAMERON HGLD FROM KT

Last Friday me and family travelled to Ipoh from Kuala Terengganu via the new (not yet officially opened) road through Kenyir Lake to Chiku-Gua Musang-Lojing-Simpang Pulai. We were on the way to send daughter Amanina to UTP for the new semester. Though the road is marred by a slope failure along the alternative Felda Road to Kuala Koh, it was a sight fulfilling travel. The Lake Kenyir seen from the highland road (if we can call it as such) was such a marvel to behold, The morning view was slightly hazy that gives it that cool serene look.

The Road exit at Chiku and from there to Gua Musang we followed the Kuala Krai-Gua Musang Trunk Road. From Gua Musang we took the road to Lojing - Blue Valley and up to Brinchang; the highest point of Cameron Highlands. After Friday prayer and some shopping for fresh veges, we travelled down to Cameronian Bharat Plantation.

This is my favorite Tea and Scone stop. I know my good friend Adib

would be envying this photo because he too loved scones. I was thinking of photgraphing the mouth watering scones served with fresh from the farm tea and bright red strawberry jam that is eye popping to behold and post it to this blog. Bad intention was not blessed and I was told that scones was not available that day.... waaahhh after thinking about it for so long, I felt like being hit by a brick... Tea with tuna sandwich is just a poor alternative..

Passing along the Lojing - Simpang Pulai road we stopped at one of the many strawberry and flowers stopover. Daughter Izzah and grand nephew (is that the correct term?) Izzat had a wonderful time picking fresh strawberries. It was very nice eaten there; fresh and succulent. However the taste quickly deteriorates on the way down to warmer valley.

Apart from the famous strawberry there are blooming orchids, big Bunga Raya and other flowers I cant named because of my meagre knowledge in botany.

Whatever, its gives me the realisation that there are so much to be seen and discovered in this home we named Malaysia. When the watch showed 6.00pm we know we have to descend to Ipoh and look for hotel for the night. Tomorrow we have to be at UTP for Nana...

This video clip is taken at Sg Temiar Elephant Sanctuary, Lake Kenyir Terengganu. The trainer said the elephants are trained in 3 languages; Malay, Thai and Burmese... Smart elephant... The star's name is Suria; a She-Elephant.

Gunung Reng is situated at Batu Melintang, Jeli, Kelantan. The photo above is the written version of the start of the Legend.

I visited this place on the way back from UiTM Perlis, after sending why daughter for registration. I had stopped at the mosque for prayer beforehand. Somehow this feeling of serenity, solemnity and being watched always seemed to descend on me whenever I dropped by at this mosque, the feeling that some`..' is watching over you less you do something disrespectful while you are here. This is not the first time I had this feeling.

The Gunung itself seemed majestically poised, sinister looking. I wonder why the State Government would want to build a tourist resort at this place. I heard caving is good. The bat infested cave (which cave is not???) I was told lead all the way to the top, if only you dare go in the dark interior.

Legend says this is the last known residence of the Majestic Puteri Saadong (why a Princess would want to stay in a cave is beyond me). It was said that the locals used to borrow plates from the Puteri for kenduris. Latter some locals returned damaged plates or simply did not return them. This angers the Puteri and she left the place to obscurity.

Whether she was at the time human or spirit is beyond by understanding because legend does not dwell on logic. It was said that when the locals wanted to borrow the plates, they went to the pool supposed to be her place of bathing and asked for the plates. Soon after plates emerged from the water in a beautiful pair of white hands. Is the Puteri then a mermaid?? The legend did not clarify so I will leave it as it was told and retold.

Maybe the air of the Puteri still stays. That's why the place seemed tgo exude that feeling. Whatever it is, Allah knows best..

I found this little thing while inspecting the reclaimation works. It was a wonder how the birds could lay egg in fresly dumped sand and the egg had already hatched in such a span of time.

How can it survive the heat, being such a helpless little thing in the midst of shoreline tropical heat?

That's why the birds seemed so suspicious when we were there and our comments were just; `lately there's many birds flying around ... must be food leftover'

This gives the meaning to `Ulat dalam batu pun ada rezeki'...

PESTA NASI SERATUS 12.07.2008 KOTA BHARU

In compliance with my friends request for photos of the said Pesta, I upload herewith some photos I manages to snap. I just manage to stop briefly because it was already quite late. It was held at the vicinity of the Stadium Sultan Mohamed IV. Alas, there's no other place suitble for events with large expected crowds turn-out. Being the only Opposition State for so long, Kelantan had suffered from continued ostracism by the Federal Govt in terms of development. Where other states have grand Celebration Area for functions, Kota Bharu only have the old Stadium. Even the procession for the yearly Sultan's Birthday (called Puja Umur ... word from the idolatrous past) is always held here.

I would say the event was dominated by the foods from the Hotels within the vicinity of Kota Bharu. Each display their best menu. From Renaissance the `Kambing Panggang' was displayed complete with its characteristic smell. The Nasi Kerabu is a must. However I must say the Nasi Dagang was not amply displayed... One Banner really caught my attention.. Nasi Lemak Cinta Sayang.. `Cik Abe Guling, Cik Adik Nenggok'... Even Kelantanese is hard pressed to understand on first reading.. :-)

This terrace shop premise is situated in front of the Muhammadi Mosque of Kota Bharu. It is so named for its white painting. However why the other shops in the row is not called that is beyond my reasoning. This shop is known for its Half-boiled eggs served with toast of 'batal bread' + butter + home made kaya. And the other speciality not in the pic is its black coffee.

The tawkey in bush-jacket with his ducklike walk is still there, though aging still looked healthy. The shop was packed as usual. When I came in, one table was still available but 10 mins after people started queueing already.

Now apart from the must-menu, other Kelantanese delights were also available; nasi dagang, nasi belauk, nasi tumpang, nasi lemak just to compliment the menu. The half boiled eggs were ISO qualitied as always; just perfectly boiled to the second; neither too hard, nor too soft. Perfect. I've no doubt I'll come here again and irresistibly snap photos again. Today there is another event at Kota Bharu; NASI SERATUS.. I hope I'll manage to be there before going back to Terengganu latter in the evening..

13,877 Khatam!!! Itulah yang dipaparkan di papantanda Majlis Khatam al Quran KAFA. Majlis diadakan di Stadium Tertutup Kompleks Stadium Gong Badak, Kuala Terengganu. Tiada negeri lain yang memprogramkan pembelajaran al Quran sebagaimana Terengganu, dengan program 'Ulul Albab'nya bertujuan melahirkan masyarakat Celik Quran dengan matlamat Quranik, Ensaiklopedik, Ijtihadik. Cantik! Kanak-kanak yang telah di penuhi al Quran dari awal insyaAllah akan melangkah jauh ke hadapan. Ini semua adalah hasil usaha bekas Menteri Besar Terengganu; Dato' Seri Idris Bin Jusoh yang kini sedang membuahkan hasil masak ranum. Sayang, satelah buah hasil penat jerih dari perancangan di realitikan, dia kini diketepikan. Tapi itulah realiti sekarang.
